System Documentation
Welcome to Particle Life. This is not a genetic algorithm. The structures you see are the result of raw emergent physics. Complex behaviors—like cells, membranes, and predators—form naturally because of randomized, asymmetric rules of attraction and repulsion.
Mutation Drift (Evolution)
Controls how quickly the fundamental laws of physics in this mini-universe change over time. If set to 0, the particles will eventually solve their physics "puzzle" and freeze in stable thermodynamic equilibrium. By turning this up, you inject continuous microscopic changes into the laws of physics, forcing the particles to adapt, break apart, and endlessly evolve into new species.
Friction / Viscosity
Determines the "thickness" of the space the particles live in. A high value (0.90+) acts like thick syrup, stabilizing structures and preventing them from vibrating apart. A low value (0.30) acts like ice, resulting in chaotic, fast-moving, and volatile interactions.
Time Step (Speed)
Controls the mathematical speed of the simulation. Higher values allow you to watch evolution happen much faster, but setting it too high may cause particles to overshoot their targets and destabilize delicate cell membranes.
Max Interaction Radius
Defines how far a particle can "see." A larger radius allows particles to attract or repel each other from further away, allowing massive macro-structures to form. Note: Higher radii require significantly more processing power.
Presets & Seeds
Randomize Seed: Generates a completely new, random set of quantum laws for the universe.
Cells/Worms: Instantly loads a specific mathematical matrix proven to force the particles into recognizable biological shapes.
